When courses fees are being covered by grant funding, you must complete one course before registering for the next one. Funding for multiple classes will only be covered if grant money is still available.

How do I complete an online training?

  1. Registered participants will receive a welcome email with login information on Monday, July 29, 2024. Check your spam/junk folders if you have not received any email communication.  After July 29, 2024 please allow 24-48 hours for an email to be sent to you after registering.
  2. Once you have successfully logged into ECExplorer, you will complete the online coursework at your own pace. All coursework, assignments, and quizzes must be completed by September 30, 2024.
  3. A video tutorial will be posted to assist you in understanding how to submit assignments, complete coursework, view grades, etc. Participants are encouraged to reach out to their CCR&R trainer when they have a question and seek individualized support throughout the course when needed.
  4. You will have the ability to view, download or print all course handouts, and assignments during the course. Access to all course materials will close by the course end on September 30, 2024. Using a cellphone to complete this course is not allowed.
  5. Students who successfully complete the entire coursework with an 80% grade or better will be added to the WI Registry and a completion certificate will be available to view on your WI Registry account. If you do not have a Registry account, you can easily create one for free here:https://wiregistry.org/individuals/.

 

Description 

The Skills and Strategies Class will prepare individuals to be successful in the role of a Lead/Head Child Care Teacher in an early childhood setting. This will be accomplished by thoroughly examining the subjects of curriculum planning and activity selection in a developmentally appropriate early childhood environment. Additional topics to be covered include exploring strategies to involve parents and the role of observation in a developmentally appropriate program. Child guidance and professionalism are also further developed. This class is one of the required classes for Lead/Head Teachers in Group Child Care programs. 

 

Learning Objectives

Successful completion of the class will require demonstration of the following competencies. Each competency has a number of specific objectives that need to be demonstrated. The competencies will be met through a combination of class activities, homework assignments, and projects.

Class competencies are:
1. Explore the relationship between growth and development of children and curriculum planning.
2. Create developmentally appropriate lesson or unit plans.
3. Use observation methods to document growth and development.
4. Provide for the individual needs of children with developmental differences.
5. Incorporate awareness and respect for diversity in curriculum planning.
6. Provide for developmentally appropriate and safe environments for children.
7. Select developmentally appropriate toys and games.
8. Incorporate language and literacy strategies in lesson/unit planning.
9. Incorporate creative activities for children (art, rhythm, music, imaginative and dramatic play, etc.) in lesson/unit planning.
10. Incorporate social studies, science, and math activities into lesson/unit planning.
11. Incorporate activities to develop gross and fine motor skills into lesson/unit planning.
